"The single biggest change that will transform the M-Class' chances is the improved quality of the interior"

Cast your mind back to the spring of 1998 and just about the coolest set of wheels you could be seen in was a Mercedes M-Class. Unfortunately for Mercedes, the M-Class didn't stay very cool for very long. It was eclipsed first by BMW's X5 and then by a whole slew of pretenders that queued up to put a lick on the big Merc. Volvo's XC90, Volkswagen's Touareg and Porsche's Cayenne a...

MERCEDES-BENZ M-CLASS ML63 AMG, mud and thunder
(08/12/2005) by Car and Driving

"The ML63 AMG offers an unlikely brand of 'instant-on' shocking acceleration"

f you drive a big 4x4, chances are you may have received some negative feedback from some sanctimonious road users on your choice of car. You can either ignore them, buy something a little less obtrusive or alternatively, earn so much money that you move into a class where normal rules do not apply. If that's the case, you may well need a Mercedes ML63 AMG.

A key priority amongst buyers of very high end ...

MERCEDES-BENZ M-CLASS ML500, give me five
(24/11/2005) by Car and Driving

"The value proposition is straightforward. The ML500 is quicker, more economical, more versatile and better equipped than any directly comparable rival"

The Mercedes ML500 Is A Big Hitter With A Big Reputation. Andy Enright Judges Whether It Lives Up To The Hype

Don't you just love those lists in the Sunday supplements that inform you that those products you never even realised had come 'in' are now completely passé? If that is indeed the case, then the Mercedes ML500, a car that ...

"The ML350 offers a silky alternative to the rather more obvious diesel option"

hey say revenge is a dish best served cold. To Mercedes, revenge is a dish best served in 2,800kg helpings. When the Mercedes M-Class was first launched in 1998, it was the big 4x4 to be seen in for all of a few months, before being ruthlessly bettered by first the BMW X5 and then by the Volvo XC90, the Volkswagen Touareg, the Porsche Cayenne and even by the Land Rover Discovery. It's not often that Mercedes...

"The M-Class hasn't always been overwhelmingly convincing. Drive an ML320CDI and prepare to backtrack"

Lamborghinis are lousy for furniture removals. They may have a number of other qualities but if you need to move a double bed, a Gallardo just doesn't cut it. Want to know what the Mercedes ML320CDI is rubbish at? Nothing. This is one of the few cars that can turn its hand to any automotive task with a reasonable degree of competence. Find a twisty section of blacktop and it can entert...

New models develop gradually from their predecessors ' or at least some of them do. The Mercedes M-class is rather different. A greater step forward from its predecessor, the utilitarian G-Wagen, could hardly be imagined. In interior ambience and on-road ability, it's the difference between Grozny and Guildford. Although interior quality was initially questionable, the M-class graduated into a credible Range Rover rival and until the launch of the BMW X5, represented the ultimate expression ...
